Meet Gabriel Perez Casado

My name is Gabriel Pérez Casado, and I was born and raised in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. I’ve been playing the violin since I was 3 years old and it is one of my biggest passions, if not the biggest. This led me to a lot of opportunities from playing for former president Barack Obama, to not having to pay for school at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus, where I started my university studies. For my Junior year, I studied through a domestic-exchange program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I eventually transferred in my Senior year and ended up graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Isenberg School of Management.

I got a job out of college at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and was there for a little over a year. During this time, I was intrigued about finding a way to set myself up in the future for retirement and to be in a better financial position as I get there. While searching for ways to invest money and time… boom! I found Bigger Pockets. I started researching the different strategies to invest in real estate and discovered “House Hacking” and I said: “That’s what I want to do!”.

While working during the pandemic at PwC, I saved aggressively in order to sum up the money for a down payment on a property. Also, I started attending the Simplified Real Estate Investment Meetups virtually since it was the only way to attend at the time. Once the pandemic softened and I moved to Boston, I attended my first meetup physically. I met some of the people at the team by networking and I loved the ambiance and energy they projected. I told one of them that I was looking for another job opportunity and a few weeks later, I got hired to work at Candor Realty.

As the Senior Manager of Finance, I am responsible for paying all the vendors we work with, running reports for the partners to track trends and/or improve the way we record things from an accounting/finance perspective, and more. It feels great to be surrounded by like-minded people that all want to be real estate investors and genuinely want to help others do the same, so everyone lives a better life. Thanks to this team, I now am house hacking a duplex in Lowell, Massachusetts and it has changed my life. I feel blessed to be part of this tribe!
